The Impact of Film on My Life
It is no surprise that I have experienced a vast amount of media throughout my life along with millions of other people in this world.Whether you prefer books or magazines,radios or iPods,newspapers or internet,television,films and more,somehow new media is being transferred your way.In today’s society,these technologies are the major sources of entertainment and news.Young people around my age (18) have really taken this advanced media for granted.It is almost expected that everyone has cable TV,internet access at home,an iPod,a cell phone,and more.All of these media options have affected my life in more ways than one,but film in particular has made a huge impact on my life on many levels.
After watching many of my favorite films,each of them have made an impression on who I want to be,and what I want in my future.One of my favorite movies is Cool Runnings.It is about the first Jamaican bobsled team who wants to make it to the Olympics.Initially the teammates did not care for each other and their coach continuously gave up but even though they didn’t have much money or practice equipment,everyone came together.They made it to the Olympic Games,but crashed on their final run,however they didn’t come so far to give up.As a team,they got out of the bobsled,and carried it together to the finish line.This was an act of courage,strength,teamwork,and pride,many of the characteristics I chose to pursue throughout my life because of this movie.
Another movie I had seen and really enjoyed was Freedom writers.A new young white teacher had gotten a job at a low end high school,teaching kids who wouldn’t be in school if it were an option.They gave her problems and she had no materials or books to teach with.The beginning of the school year was so difficult,and as hard as they made it on her,she never gave up.She got an extra job to buy books for the class.The teacher got these kids on the right track and made them want to learn.This job was so rewarding for her to see these kid completely turn around for the better.This taught me to never give up on something.It also made me realize I want to choose a job where I can help change people’s lives in a positive way.
These are just a few examples of how important movies are to me.They can give you this sense of humanity and emotion that you may need.All different genres can give you different things to hope for and teach you things to stay away from.I think that most movies based on true stories are beneficial to watch because you get a sense of what’s going on in this world through a film,rather than a possible made up story on the news.Films are the medium of media that I enjoy most and have impacted my life greatly.I would be devastated if producers stopped creating certain masterpieces.
